SUMMARY:2025 International Famine Commemoration
DESCRIPTION:Ireland’s Minister for Culture\, Communications\, and Sport\, Patrick O’Donovan TD will officiate at the 2025 International Famine Commemoration in Gaelic Park\, Chicago on Sunday 2nd November 2025 at 10am. \n\n\n\nThe ceremony will feature remarks from Minister O’Donovan and Vice President of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago\, Patricia Theresa Flynn and a wreath-laying in remembrance of all who suffered\, died\, or emigrated during the Famine. \n\n\n\nThis will be the 12th International Famine Commemoration\, which has previously been hosted by Irish communities in the United States\, Australia and Canada. \n\n\n\nThe Commemoration will take place at Gaelic Park’s Famine Memorial\, which was dedicated in the fall of 1999 in remembrance of the millions of Irish people who died or emigrated due to the Great Famine. The Famine Memorial was designed and sculpted by Father Anthony J Brankin. \n\n\n\nFollowing the ceremony\, Father Brankin will say mass in the Emerald Room. Mass will be followed by breakfast and refreshments. \n\n\n\nThe International Famine Commemoration ceremony is open to the public\, but tickets are required. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome at Chicago Gaelic Park. DESCRIPTION:As a small child in Belfast\, Van Morrison used to love listening to his father’s Hank Williams\, Jimmie Rodgers\, Muddy Waters\, Mahalia Jackson and Leadbelly records. He became a traveling musician at age 13 and formed Them in 1964 at 19. \n\n\n\nFrom then on\, it was simply impossible to categorize him in any traditional musical category. You want pop? Gloria. Top 40? Domino. Iconic song played at every social function known to man? Brown-Eyed Girl. \n\n\n\nBut that merely scratches the surface. Van Morrison’s complete understanding of the gospel\, jazz & R&B idioms makes the prospect of forging a tribute show to the Belfast Cowboy a wonderful challenge. \n\n\n\nA 10-piece Band Featuring Singer/Songwriter/ Harp Player Derrick Procell. The night will span the musical genres of Van Morrison’s almost 60-year career. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 5pm. \n\n\n\nNo outside food or beverage permitted.
